Race 3 – 3rd
Race 4 – DNF (Taken off by another rider)
This was the last-ever round of Thundersport GB. The weekend did not turn out to be one that I had hoped for. I have raced this whole season hard but fair and I am proud to say that despite other’s actions I kept true to this right up until the end.
R6 (Pre-national 600 Sport) – I came into 4th in the Championship this weekend with no expectation of closing the gap enough to take 3rd position. The top 4 (including myself) have been in strong competition all season long with various finishing combinations along the way. The podium’s top step had already been wrapped up by the end of race 1. Huge congratulations to Jorge Halliday on a fantastic season! Despite not expecting the promotion to 3rd place this didn’t mean I was going to give it any less. Race 1 got underway again I was able to blast the start. I didn’t keep the lead for long and we were soon into normal race battles for podium places. I was able to bring it home in the third position. Race 2 was much the same however this time I hung in there taking the second-place trophy home. Sunday’s races got underway again I was starting on the front row and got a snappy getaway. This race was a battle all the way to the line and I was pleased to take away another 2nd position. The 3rd place in the championship was now in sight! It all came down to the last race. I was running on adrenaline and an injured left armpit and shoulder after an incident 30 minutes before on the R1. Again I had an amazing start and was able to keep the lead lap after lap and put in the race’s fastest lap knowing I needed to finish 1st to take 3rd overall. On the last lap of the last ever race of Thunde sport the competition came to a dramatic end as I trail braked into the corner the bike didn’t want to play anymore. Right in front of the grandstand, I slid with my bike in toe along the grass. It was good whilst It lasted. Thankfully I wasn’t any further hurt and stood up to an applause from the grandstand. The title for the last ever fall goes to me. (Is the trophy in the post Dave Stewart? 😊)
R1 (GP1 Classics) – I came into the weekend 1st in the championship. With season-long runners taking part I only needed a 2nd and three 3rds to take home the winner’s trophy. A late Friday evening entry from a rider from the GP1 elite category change the course of this championship and season’s story by giving my main rival a wingman. Because of this, I was held up from challenging and when close he was let through to the win. The final knife in the back was the attempts, the last being successful in taking me off my bike therefore out of the runnings. Despite what had obviously happened all weekend I didn’t let it get to me and went out every race like the rest of the season giving it my all and staying true to myself and the belief in sportsmanship being the overall most important quality of a rider in this sport.
I would like to say a huge thank you for the hard work of the commentators this season and the support the commentators, paddock and spectators gave me in this difficult weekend. Despite the various comments about me running on a budget with my pieced-together bikes 😊 .
I have enjoyed my time at Thundersport and thankfull for the progression, it has given me as a rider. It is now time to take the knowledge and experience gained and find pastures new.
