The first qualifying session of the day was for the Clubman 1000, and it went well. I managed to secure the P2 spot on the grid with a personal best lap time of 1:57.615. Following that, was the qualifying session for the Thunderbike Ultras. I achieved a P3 grid position after putting in some good laps.
Saturday
In the first Clubman 1000 race, I had a good start and managed to keep the lead for the first lap. Soon, there were three of us competing for the lead, with the other two being strong in the infield, and my strength lying in the rest of the circuit. Eventually, I finished in first place with a new personal best time of 1:56.901. The second Clubman 1000 race followed a similar pattern, with a battle between the three of us throughout the race. This time, I finished first in my class and second on the track, lowering my personal best time to 1:56.124.
During the Saturday Thunderbike Ultra races, I started in third position on the grid for both races. I had a good start in each race and led the pack into the first few corners. Similar to the clubman race, the same three of us were battling for the top spot in both races. I finished in third position in each race, setting a personal best lap time of 1:57.224 in the second race.
Sunday
In the Clubman 1000 races, I anticipated today's races to follow the same pattern as yesterday's, although I expected my pace to drop off as I was still using the same tyres from Saturday. The first race started well, and quickly we were battling for the lead. On lap 4, I ran wide onto the grass which caused a near highside as I got back on the power. Luckily, I managed to stay on, but I lost several places and dropped back to P7. The rest of the race was about limiting the damage. I was able to work my way back through the pack to finish P2 in class and P4 on the track with a new personal best of 1:55.731. By the last Clubman 1000 race of the weekend, my tyres were worn out, and after the first couple of laps, it was clear that I didn't have the tires to keep up with the top 3. I finished in a comfortable P1 in class and P3 on the track.
In the Thunderbike Ultra races, I started both races in P3 on the grid. In the first race, I got a good start and led into the first couple of corners. The race quickly followed this weekend's format of the top 3 battling. On lap 4, my bike randomly cut out coming out of Palmers. At this point, I thought it was all over. However, near Agostini’s, I pulled myself together and decided to turn the bike off and see if it would come back on. Thankfully, it fired back up. Despite this issue, I didn’t lose any positions and was still in P3. It was then time to bring it safely across the line, and I finished the race in P3.
For the last race of the weekend, without knowing what caused the bike to cut out in the previous race, I did not have faith that it would last the race. So, I decided to go out on the wet bike, despite it being set up for wet conditions. With worn tyres from the weekend, I couldn’t stay with the leaders, so I decided to bring it home in a safe 3rd position.
The final round of the season is at Brands Hatch on the 21st/22nd of September.
