This weekend marked the third round of the Superstock season at Silverstone. It was my first time riding at this iconic circuit, so getting up to speed quickly was essential.
Friday – Free Practice
Due to the double-race format, we had just one 30-minute free practice session, which took place at 6pm. The goal was to learn the layout and put in a representative lap. I clocked a 2:14.011, a solid starting point considering my lack of track knowledge. However, by the end of the session, I was already beginning to feel the onset of arm pump.
Saturday – Qualifying & Race 1
Qualifying began around midday. Right out of the gate, I managed to improve on my free practice time. With each lap, I continued to shave off time, eventually setting a 2:11.830 on my final flying lap—good enough for P24 on the grid.
Race 1 took place later that evening and was run in unpredictable conditions. Just as we headed out for sighting laps, the rain began to fall. By the time the race started, it had settled into a light drizzle, which meant tyre temperatures had dropped.
A few laps in, the safety car was deployed. Unfortunately, the rider ahead of me slowed significantly and appeared to have an issue but didn’t raise an arm to indicate a problem. I didn’t want to risk overtaking under safety car conditions and receiving a penalty, so I was forced to stay behind. This allowed the rest of the pack to bunch up, leaving a sizeable gap between us and the group ahead.
When the safety car came in, I pushed hard to close the gap, but arm pump struck around halfway through the race, limiting my ability to ride at full pace. Despite this, I managed to bring the bike home in P25.
Sunday – Race 2
On Sunday morning, I visited State 11 in an attempt to ease the arm pump. I lined up P26 on the grid for Race 2 and got off to a strong start, gaining three positions on the opening lap. By lap 6, I had made up two more places and was putting in lap times close to my qualifying pace.
Unfortunately, the arm pump returned and by lap 9, my performance started to suffer. I lost a few spots as a result and ultimately crossed the line in P26.
Overall, it was a weekend of mixed results. The arm pump definitely hindered my performance, especially in the second half of both races, but I’m proud to have seen the chequered flag both days and gained valuable experience at a new track.
Next up: Snetterton – 20th to 22nd June.
A huge thank you to my amazing pit crew—Nick, Hayden, and Amy—my 2025 sponsors, and everyone who came out to support me this weekend. Your support makes all the difference.
