This weekend was another successful weekend. A great number of championship points were gained.
DART MRO 600 (R6)
After qualifying I started 5th on the grid. Due to the budget being tighter as we come to the end of the season, I made the decision to use the same tyres that I used throughout the Cadwell weekend. This meant I didn’t have as much grip as I would have liked or needed this weekend. The first race got off to a good start but I wasn’t able to keep up with the pace of the leaders. I finished this race in 3rd position which brought my grid position to the front row for the next race. In the second race, I got a good start but again I did not have the pace to battle with the lead man. I finished this race in 2nd position bringing my grid position up to 2nd where I remained for the rest of the weekend. Sunday’s races were much more exciting I found some pace and was able to battle for the lead. In the 3rd race, there were multiple changes to the lead which eventually ended with a drag race to the line resulting in a photo finish of 0.005 seconds between us finishing in 2nd place with a PB of 1:57.701. The fourth race was much the same story however by this point I had very little grip left in the tyre causing me to run wide in the final stages of the race. I brought it home in 2nd position with 0.814 to the lead. Huge congratulations to Harry Fowle Racing #36 on winning the championship this weekend.
Thunderbike Ultra (GSXR)
I qualified on Saturday morning on the pole position. In the first race I got my normal start, Stacey kept me honest all race. I was able to control the pace and it wasn’t long before we pulled away from the rest of the pack. I brought it home in 1st position. The second race was a repeat of the first race. In this race, there were more changes to the lead but I again brought it home in first place. The 3rd race again saw close battles between myself and Stacey. Stacey was pushing me on pace all the way through. I finished P.1 with a lap PB of 1:59.220. By race 4 Kieran Smith had made his way up the grid. My start wasn’t as strong as normal but I was able to keep the lead. For the majority of the race, the battles were between 1st and 2nd places with Kieran watching and waiting for the right opportunity. A mistake on the final lap and I dropped from 1st to 3rd. This gave Kieran the opportunity he had been waiting for and he quickly took the lead. This gave me the chance to rectify my mistake. I pushed hard to the end and gained second position. I go into the final round at Brands Hatch leading the Thunderbike Ultra championship with it all still to play for.
